Digicel PNG Staff Volunteer for Cleanathon
Monday 02nd October 2023, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea || Over 30 Digicel PNG staff volunteered for a morning cleanathon on Friday 29th September at Gordons, Port Moresby.
Giving back to the community is part of the Digicel PNG culture, and the Foundation Day is a day that gives its staff the opportunity to do just this. It is a one-day paid leave made available every year by Digicel PNG Ltd, providing its employees the chance to give back to their communities through the Digicel Foundation initiatives. This year, a cleanathon was organized so that staff could use their Foundation Day to volunteer for community service in the Gordons area.
The cleanathon started from the Digicel Head office at Gordons to Wardstrip Primary School, then from Gordons Secondary School to Unagi Oval, and continued back towards RH and Brian Bell Plaza. Most of the rubbish collected included betel nut husks, cigarette butts, wrappers, bottle tops, straws and juice containers. Through this cleanathon, Digicel staff hopes to set an example for others and children to be mindful of their rubbish, and dispose them at the right place, and that others who are watching can consider their actions before littering.
A total of 76 hours of company time was volunteered for this cleanathon, which started at 9am to 11am, where 38 enthusiastic Digicel PNG employees had taken part. Digicel Foundation remains grateful, as it is able to do what it does because of the hard-working staff at Digicel PNG Ltd.
