Digicel Vanuatu network restored, free calls to Vanuatu from Digicel Pacific countries

Tonga – Thursday 19th December 2024

In the aftermath of the earthquakes that affected Vanuatu earlier this week, Digicel Pacific is offering its customers across the Pacific free calls from their home country to Vanuatu.

This offer is valid for Digicel to Digicel calls from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga and Nauru to Vanuatu from Friday, 20th to Friday, 27th December.

Digicel Pacific Regional HUB Markets CEO, Shally Jannif, stated, “We understand how deeply important it is to feel connected with friends and loved ones, especially during challenging times. Our hearts ache for our friends and loved ones in Vanuatu. Please, reach out. Let them know you’re thinking of them. You are not alone in this. We stand with you, Vanuatu.”

Digicel Vanuatu’s network stood resilient during recent seismic events, ensuring uninterrupted domestic calls. While international calls and data services experienced temporary disruptions, they were quickly restored by Digicel’s technical teams.

Beyond maintaining its network, Digicel Vanuatu extended support and assistance where possible to other telecommunications operators, demonstrating national unity and prioritising the needs of the Vanuatuan people. Our teams are working with Interchange Limited for the restoration of their data centre, a crucial step towards fully restoring international connectivity.

Also, Digicel Vanuatu, today launched a ‘Vanuatu Tuff Tumas’ earthquake relief donation platform for the diaspora community and the Pacific family to aid the relief and rehabilitation efforts of Vanuatu Red Cross following this week’s devastation.

“This donation platform will help our diaspora and Pacific families to make donations simply and make a difference with much-required relief efforts on the island. We wanted our wider family to take part in this important campaign so we have launched a text donation platform and the MyCash app donation mainly for the diaspora community,” added Shally.

The diaspora community can send their donations directly to Digicel Mobile Money or MyCash number in Vanuatu: +678 1111222.

Also, our parent company Telstra has made all calls to Vanuatu numbers from Telstra home and mobiles in Australia free, from today to January 8.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Vanuatu and we will continue to support the community relief efforts from Digicel Vanuatu.
