Digicel donates $5,000 to Fiji Cancer Society
Digicel marked Pinktober celebrations and donated $5,000 to the Fiji Cancer Society.
To mark the annual campaign of Pinktober, Digicel Fiji in collaboration with the Fiji Cancer Society conducted a cancer awareness session with all their staff. This year’s event included an experience sharing session from a cancer survivor, and education for staff around the early signs and symptoms of breast cancer.
For the entire month of October, staff members wore Pink every Wednesday to honour those who have survived and those battling cancer. There was also a ‘bring and buy’ activity that was held every Friday at all Digicel offices in the country by the staff where all proceeds have also been included in the contribution to the Fiji Cancer Society.
Digicel Fiji CEO, Farid Mohammed, said that there had been a very positive response from the staff members towards the Pinktober campaign this month.
“As Digicel celebrates its 14th birthday this month, we are pleased to contribute to a relevant cause like Cancer Awareness. We have heard of the increase of breast cancer cases in the country and our we have urged our staff to take part in organising activities that are able to raise awareness, education through sharing of information and taking part in exciting activities. ”
“I strongly support this initiative and urge women to regularly conduct self-examination and clinical screenings, as early detection is the best defence against breast cancer,” added Farid.
Digicel will continue to support the work of organisations like the Fiji Cancer Society and their great work in advocating and driving awareness around early detection and care for those who are currently fighting cancer.
